Good morning, world!

I'm new to this whole blogging thing, but I decided (after reading several other people's blogs) that my life might be worth documenting... sometimes.

What a disappointment I experienced this weekend. On Friday, one of my bestest college friends was getting married. I'd been planning this for a year - the wedding in Detroit. Well, my flight was supposed to take off at 8 Friday morning (and land at 1PM) - allowing me time in Detroit to make myself pretty for a 4:00 ceremony.

Everything went as planned, until takeoff. Apparently we broke the plane because one of the engines caught on fire during takeoff. We weren't 10 feet in the air when the pilot slammed on the breaks, landed right back on the runway, swerved to a stop, pulled off, and had emergency vehicles circling the airplane. We were told later (much later) that the people in the flight-control tower saw the flames and told the pilot to abort. And then they told us that we're lucky that happened during takeoff and not when we were already in flight. Was that supposed to be comforting?

As things turned out, I didn't make it to Detroit. All the remaining flights were full by the time I got through the mile-long line to speak with the lady behind the counter. And at that point, I didn't really want to get on another airplane anyways. What a mess.

I missed the wedding. One of the most important days in Mike's life, and I couldn't be there for it because of a stupid maintenance problem.
