Can't choose when you're going to get sick... and can't ignore it when it happens, because that just makes it all worse.
TIMING could not be worse. Last Friday night I woke up late with a sore throat and tried to take it easy Saturday and Sunday, as Monday was the first day of school. Ha.
I got to school Monday morning, raring to go as much as I could ... and my voice was COMPLETELY gone by about 12:30. Tuesday, I taught with no voice (not recommended, especially the first week of school), and Wednesday I went to the doctor, pointed to my throat, and said FIX THIS!
Well, turned out larangitis was not my only ailment. Nope, I had no business being with a group of kiddos (or anyone else, for that matter). Full on upper respiratory infection with fever, swollen lymph nodes, strep, and an ear infection. Needless to say, she put me on a lot of drugs and told me to rest. After I finished crying, kicking, and screaming - I followed the doctor's orders and I feel MUCH better. (AND my voice is almost back...)
So I missed 3 of my first 5 days of school. Way to go, teacher!
And thinking about it, August has been a really stressful month. What with an uninvited houseguest (as sweet as he is - gone now, thank goodness), and some emotional struggles and resulting personal struggles with the boy (resolved now, thankful for that too)... I think my body just got worn down. Amazing what your emotional/spiritual health can do to your physical health. I become more of a believer every day.
