Well I was going to post this TWO WEEKS AGO, but my computer was being tempermental so I saved it and ... well, here you go:
Life is busy!
So I've been taking the bus to school because I HATE driving anyways, and gas is way too expensive, and the boy's car is perpetually in the shop for one reason or another... so some days the bus is just easier. But not always.
A normal day begins with me getting on the bus at 6:30 AM (to get to school at 7:45), and getting off the bus at 5:15 pm... 5:45 if I wait until 4:30 to get on. Not too bad. The stop is about a 10 minute drive from my house. Keep in mind that a normal driving commute to school is 45 minutes in traffic that makes my blood pressure rise to dangerous levels and most of my hair fall out, so the extra half hour and the opportunity to read a book or listen to my IPOD is well worth it. Although the motion sickness sometimes cancels that out.
Anyways. Monday I tried to take the bus all the way home because the boy was working. This requires me to take 3 busses. Not fun, but I wasn't complaining. Problem is, the second bus never came. I called RTD and they said "one went by at 5:40..." Well, I'd been there since 5:30 and it was about 6:10 when I called. Next bus was at 6:40, so I started walking. My friend AJ called mid-walk and invited me over for dinner so I took a detour and walked there instead. I should mention that it was raining.... I arrived at his house pissed off and hungry at 7:20. Ate yummy Indian food, drank some chai tea his roommate Cory made for me, and plopped on his couch to read and wait for the boy to come pick me up. The boy arrived around 9:30, ate his dinner, and hung out for a bit while I fell asleep. Meanwhile, my IBS kicked in and I spent quite some time in AJ's bathroom. Oh well. Finally got home at 11:30. Went to bed, started all over on Tuesday.
Tuesday night I had my pottery class, which is the highlight of the week. It's amazing how playing with mud can be so cathartic. Then I went home and for some reason couldn't put my book down until it was finished and it was after midnight. Stupid me.
Wednesday I had to work at Banana until 11:00 - went home and CRASHED. The boy went out and met his friend for a drink. Well, 2 AM comes and I get a text from the boy's mother... "you est avec leo?" 4 times in a row. So I text back "je ne suis pas avec cito. porquois? est il ok?" And she tells me she was on the phone with him and he got pulled over. Here I am thinking, oh shit. She's flipping out in Venezuela and he's not home yet. And she wants me to do something about it. 4 AM I get a phone call from Cito and he says "come get me." Where are you? Turns out he was put in detox (Colorado law) because he was driving under the influence. His breathalizer was barely over the legal limit... it's amazing how little it takes to get you there. In a 2 1/2 hour time span, he had 2 drinks. So I walk to my car, which is 6 blocks from my house (what luck he has!), and drive downtown to the detox building to find that they won't release him until he blows a 0.000 (another Colorado law). So I drive home at 5 AM to try to get what little sleep there is left for the night, text his mother the latest... and get a call at 5:45 from psychotic bastard asking me what his brother's bail is and if he can do anything. And I explain that in CO they put you in detox, not jail and there is no possibility of bail - they just release you when they feel like it.
So I call AJ at about 6:00 to see if he can drive me to school because I want to leave my car outside of detox so Cito can get himself to work when he's released but then I can't catch the bus in time because I don' have a bike rack so AJ meets me there and off we go.
About 10 minutes from school, we get in a car accident. We were at a stop sign at a big main road, AJ was blinded by the sun, and he went when he shouldn't have. Both cars are totaled; it wasn't pretty. But both of us were fine. The lady in the other car is somebody you don't want to get in a wreck with anytime, anywhere. She wouldn't say a word to either of us, wouldn't even roll down her window or get out of her car. Just sat there on her cellphone calling a million people. Fire dept gets there and all of a sudden she's holding her neck whining. (I don't doubt that she was hurt, but she could've at least talked to us because we were asking if she was ok.)
I got a ride to school, I assume AJ got a ride home, and I started my teaching day - tired as hell and shaking like a leaf. Finally the adrenalin wears off and my ankle starts bothering me. I sent a student down to get me an ice pack and iced it for the rest of the morning. Lunch time came and I walked down to the office... by the time I got there I was hyperventilating I was in so much pain.
Needless to say, somebody else took my class for the rest of the day and my friend Carmela brought me to the doctor. Now this was no easy task. I called my PCP and they couldn't treat me because the injury is automobile related. The place they recommended doesn't take my health insurance and I don't have out of network coverage... and the place THEY recommended is appointment only and didn't have anything available until next week. I could've gone to the ER but my health insurance company is in negotiations and I don't have any hospitals I can go to right now. (Nice timing.) So finally Carmela brought me to this urgent care place and they had no problem with me using my medical insurance for an automobile injury. The whole checkup, yada yada.
Turns out I have a sprained ankle AND a fractured foot bone. So I'm in a stupid walking cast for the next 5 weeks and I'm on crutches. Those SUCK, by the way. And so does getting in and out of the shower. And stairs are now the scariest things ever.
But hey, it could be a lot worse. The best thing about it is I don't have to drive for the next 5 weeks! AND this stupid thing will be off just in time for ski season. And don't you think skiing is the best thing to rebuild my strength? I do!
Yesterday at school my students ran away from me. Third graders are so mischievous. Kyle (teacher next door) stopped them and said "just because your teacher can't walk..." It was really funny.
Thursday night I was in bed by 8:00, and the boy is now treating me like a princess.
