My friend's niece passed away today. She was 17 months old.
She was diagnosed with a brain tumor right around this time last year, at five months of age. I have been following Jayani's story from day one - and I have to say that she was the strongest little girl I never met.
Sometimes life just isn't fair. I do believe that some people are with us for a lifetime, and some for a lesson... and that baby taught everyone a huge lesson about strength, determination, and optimism. And I know why that particular family (and specifically, those parents) were chosen to have and care for that child. The way they handled themselves throughout her illness was admirable - and their little one knew nothing but love and kindness her entire life.
Their words: "We willingly handed our precious child to God today." I can't even imagine.
For anyone who is interested, here is a website with pictures of the family:

I can't imagine the strength it takes to endure that heartache. My prayers and condolences go out to that family.
Lauren - Thank you for sharing this story. It's one that should help us to all reflect on who we have in our lives and how precious every second is...
